My Story…

Hi everyone, my name is Daryl Wood. I live in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

I have been battling an undiagnosed disease since December 2009. My family and myself are very uncertain about my future, as each of the many doctors I am referred to, have an alternative diagnosis. These  include, but are not limited to,
Guillain-Barrè Syndrome, Whipple’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Transverse Myelitis, Lyme Disease and so on.  After some pretty close calls on my life, extreme loss of lot of weight (46 kg), mal absorption, organs shutting down, and respiratory arrest, I am a complete T10 Paraplegic. I can also add (as of May 2018), I am a bilateral through knee amputee, as my lower legs were venus and arterially failing.

Back to the story of why I began this website.  My paraplegia occurred in mid 2011 and is where my disability story began. We all had to come to terms with my acquired disability. I stressed I wanted to stay at home/in  the community, not in respite or a nursing home. We therefore went about trying to find assistance from any source possible. Unfortunately, unless you know people within or have a broad knowledge of the disability sector, the world of disabilities can be very difficult to navigate and find assistance. You then try the Internet, to search and find what’s needed. Again unless you know what and/or who you are searching for, there are no websites and/or companies, that can provide any overall guidance, or multiple contacts and information for equipment, modifications, personal care and funding assistance etc., etc., etc.

This lead me to build this website, in order to help those that may be unfortunate enough, to be in the same situation as myself. I hope this will help others in the future.

Please let me know via the “contact us” form (see navigation tab), if I can add further links to Private, Public, Persons and / or Companies that maybe able to assist.  I will endeavour to keep each link up to date however things change, so please bear with me and let me know if a link is broken.

In conclusion, I always keep telling myself two things, “There are people worse off than myself” and “live life to the fullest, as you never know what’s around the corner”.

All the best,

  Daryl Wood
